Waters of Life
The "Waters of Life" composite was created to celebrate my pre-Aliyah (immigration) trip to Israel. This piece was shown in several exihbitions and galleries, both in Israel and the United States. The composited image scenes reflect my personality as both a scientist and an artist/photographer. The multi-image scenes create a dynamic 3D-like visual illusion which I first came up with to tell a story about the rich textures, emotions and experiences - my story - and perhaps your story.
Every photograph tells a story - an emotional one and a literal one that describes the scene. In this case, 3 interwoven stories and the subtext behind the title.
The scenes shown in Waters of Life convey a love story with a country I have always called home, but where I now make my home. The three images are of the Sea of Galilee (Kinneret); the promenade in Caesaria, and a view of the Jerusalem Forest looking out from the overlook at Yad Vashem - Israel's Holocaust memorial museum.
The water connection in two of the images is clear, but why the 3rd image of the forest? Why from Yad Vashem? Without water the forests wouldn't thrive. Water is at the very center of life and living, renewing the spirit of a people and a country, of bringing water to the barren desert, and rising out of the depths of despair in the Holocaust to the scenes of life and the scenic beauty in looking across the Mediterranean Sea - the salty waters and the salt of tears; to the fresh water of the Sea of Galilee - a wellspring of life-giving waters to a nation, and renewing the spirits of people from around the world.
Wishing you safe travels and good health,
A bit of Science and Art.
That part of the story is still being written but has emerged out of Israel - healing the mind and the soul!
